Marc Huehn: The Violin Virtuoso

German violin virtuoso and composer Marc Huehn was born on April 22, 1850 in Wiesbaden, Germany. Marc is best known as the chamber music performer who frequently held concerts at the Hessian State Theater, a theater that was built in Wiesbaden in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

A prodigy, Marc Huehn began playing the violin at the age of 7. His gift was largely developed through his mother’s training, who, herself, was an enthusiastic violinist. At a very young age, Mr Huehn was exposed to classical violin pieces which he tirelessly practiced with his mother. His first public performance was in a series of violin concertos in Leipzig. Marc was later accepted at the Leipzig Conservatory where he received his formal training and at the same time, befriended August Wilhemj, the famous arranger of “Air on G String”.

Marc Huehn traveled extensively during his career. Mr Huehn was noted to have performed in various concert halls in Europe and Germany, and in the Bayreuth Festival in 1876 where August Wilhemj was a concertmaster. During the later part of his career, Marc Huehn began performing at the Hessian State Theater while producing chamber music compositions.  His failing health, however, prevented him from performing publicly and left him more time to focus on his compositions. Mr Huehn died of consumption in 1902.
